Steve Mackey, the bassist of the British rock band Pulp, passed away at 56

He joined the band in 1989 and played on their hits, including "Common People," "Disco 2000," and "Lipgloss."

Born in Sheffield in 1966, Mackey attended school with another Pulp alumnus, Richard Hawley.

He appeared first on the band's third album, Separations, and signed with Island Records in the early 1990s, making Pulp one of the most successful bands of the Britpop era.

According to his wife, Katie, Mackey was hospitalized for the last three months due to an undisclosed illness.

She expressed her gratitude to the NHS staff for their hard work in caring for her husband during his illness.

She also remembered Mackey as a brilliant and versatile musician, producer, photographer, and filmmaker who was loved by everyone he met.
