Maxi Jazz, the lead vocalist from the band 'Faithless' has died on saturday, December 24.

He was known as the voice in trance hits such as "God Is a DJ" and "Insomnia", has passed away at 65, the band said on Saturday.

"He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways. He gave proper meaning and message to our music," two other members of Faithless, Rollo and Sister Bliss, stated on Facebook.

"He was also a lovely human being with time for everyone and a wisdom that was both inherent and accessible."

The band wrote on Twitter that Jazz has died peacefully in his sleep. They did not give cause of death.

Jazz was born in 1957, Maxwell Fraser in Brixton, south London. He helped Faithless from 1995, which then grew into one of the most famous dance bands in Britain.

Faithless 1995 song "Insomnia", which features Jazz rapping about struggling to sleep with the refrain "I can't get no sleep", was voted the 5th greatest dance record.

The song, which ranked top the dance hits in many European countries, made Jazz quip in a 2020 interview.

"If I had a quid for every time someone’s come up going, 'I can't get no sleep', I’d be living on the space station" he said.

Their greatest hit CD, titled Forever Faithless, was declared 4 times platinum and became the best-selling dance album of 2005.
