On February 28, the Falcons released 29-year-old Marcus Mariota after he had spent a single season with the team in Atlanta.

Mariota was benched in Week 15 for Desmond Ridder, and then placed on injured reserve for a chronic knee injury requiring surgery that ended his season.

The Eagles added veteran QB Marcus Mariota as backup to Pro Bowler Jalen Hurts, who played in 15 games last season.

Hurts' sprained shoulder caused him to miss two games, and the Eagles lost both games when Gardner Minshew stepped in as QB.
