First Woman and Black Astronaut to Lead Historic Artemis II Mission to the Moon

Next year, 3 Americans and 1 Canadian will be the 1st astronauts since 1972 to travel deep into space by flying around the Moon in a historic mission.

In November 2024, the Artemis II flight will happen. It's a step towards sending humans back to the Moon for the first time in 50 years.

Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch are NASA astronauts selected for Artemis II. They've been to the International Space Station before.

Jeremy Hansen is also part of the team. He works for the Canadian Space Agency and this will be his first time in space.

At an event in Houston's Johnson Space Center, NASA administrator Bill Nelson introduced the four astronauts, who were all wearing blue flight suits.

The goal is to return to the Moon and then travel to Mars. Koch, an electrical engineer, spent a record-breaking 11 months in space.
